Makin Soyinka
Director Makin Soyinka was admitted into the University of Ife, Ile-Ife to study Literature-In-English and graduated in 1991 with a B.A. in the same course. Since then Makin has worked extensively in the arts and media industry, focusing mainly on television, film and radio productions, though also having worked extensively in other areas of the arts sector and the media.
He established Barollo Productions Ltd in1993. Makin has been a columnist for several magazines, a producer of television, film and radio programmes, a consultant for various media organizations in terms of programming and infrastructure. He's worked on various
independent programming documentaries, including several for the BBC, Channel 4 UK, CBC Canada, The Oprah Winfrey Show amongst others.
One of his most ambitious media infrastructure projects has been the Lagos Film City (LFC) atTopo, Badagry, a Lagos State Initiative. Over a four year period, Makin was instrumental in the Conception, Planning and Driving the process of the Lagos Film City Project. The LFC is a set of studios and sound stages with other performance and tourist related facilities set over 80 Hectares of Land and when completed over its three phases, would be the largest such facility in Sub-Saharan Africa which would transform the state of the television and film industry in Nigeria and the Sub-Region.
Makin helped set up the Lagos Film Office (LFO), the pioneer Film Office in Nigeria, dedicated to promoting and facilitating film and television productions in Lagos.
Makin has been a producer and consultant with ThisDay Newspapers/Leaders and Company producing various aspects of the ThisDay Music Festivals for almost a decade (arguably Africa's biggest music concerts for almost a decade), which involve huge logistics and planning, and working on the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week, Lagos. He also produced extensively various aspects of the ThisDay Festival of Ideas Series which has brought various World Leaders such as Presidents Clinton, Bush Jnr, Prime Minister Tony Blair, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Prime Minister Fox etc to Nigeria in Lagos and Abuja.
He's been a Consultant to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), helping to focus attention on Nigerian Content in Media and promoting such at Major International Fora such as MIPCOM,MIPTV (Cannes) etc. Amonst other projects, Makin was involved in the formation and birth of the Lagos Traffic Management Agency LASTMA), at the onset of the Bola Tinubu Administration in 1999, when he helped bring in the Pioneer GM, Mr Gboyega Coker and worked extensively with him in theformulation and set up of the operations of LASTMA.
He's also promoted and founded MK Workshop Productions Ltd and Nkan Productions Ltd, which are actively involved in various aspects of media: consulting, construction, supply and maintenance of equipment. Makin was founding member of Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), he's a member of the Advisory Board of The Nollywood Foundation (USA) and is on the boards of other NGO's as a director, trustee.
